Asklepios hospitals: Growing number of patients assures significant growth

• Preliminary figures for 2013 show increase in sales and earnings
• Demand for out-patient treatment further increasing, in-patient treatment slightly above previous years level
• Moderate growth in the number of employees

Asklepios Kliniken GmbH, holding company of the health care Group Asklepios, presents encouraging preliminary results for fiscal year 2013. Around 2.2 million patients were treated in the hospitals and healthcare facilities of Asklepios Group which is an increase of 4.6 per cent over previous year. Especially the out-patient treatment showed a significant growth: the hospitals registered around 13 per cent more patients than last year. The number of in-patient treatments rose slightly.

The increased number of patients was the main driver for the positive development of sales and earnings in 2013. Sales grew by 3.1 per cent to EUR 2,899 million. A small proportion of sales growth stemmed from the acquisition of the specialist clinic Lenggries. Previous year’s figures have been adjusted due to a change in the appropriation of sales and other operating income. Operative earnings, EBITDA, grew by 6.4 per cent to EUR 284 million representing an EBITDA margin of 9.8 per cent (previous year: 9.5 per cent). Asklepios was able to limit the increase in administrative expenses through effective cost management.

Stephan Leonhard, Vice-Chairman of the Corporate Management Board, underpinned: “The targets set for the fiscal year 2013 were quite ambitious – as has been shown especially throughout the demanding first half of 2013. We are therefore all the more pleased striving these targets as clearly with the increases in sales and operative earnings.”

The annual report 2013 with further details on the consolidated financial statements will be published by Asklepios on its website www.asklepios.com on 29 April 2014.
