Organic growth improves in the second quarter – operative margin in the first six months still under that of the previous year. Once again, the Asklepios Group cared for considerably more patients in the first six months: Although the number of beds remained virtually unchanged, the number of patients treated rose by 5,6% to 1,043,030 million, the growth resulting from the outpatients’ department alone. The turnover increased thanks to the exclusively organically achieved growth by 2.6% to EUR 1,514.2 million. (1st Half-year 2012: EUR 1,472.5 million). The growth thereby increased in the second quarter of 2013, increasing by 4.1%.

Quality of medical outcomes and profit results substantially increased The third quarter of 2012 has shown an increase of 17.5% in patient numbers, to more than 1,488,000 patients, in comparison to last year. Turnover increased by 21.6% (of which 2.9% were attributable to organic growth) to EUR 2,228m (Q3/2011: EUR 1,833m), for the first time showing the year-round impact of the newly acquired MediClin AG clinics. Despite the nationwide trend of increasing remuneration, as well as the sustained pressure of the cost of additional hospital services, the operating result (EBITDAR) has risen by 34.9% to now more than EUR 235.3m, representing a margin increase of 1.1 percentage points to the current 10.6%.

Good half-yearly figures despite difficult environment The number of patients rose by 18.0% year-on-year in the first half of 2012 to over 988,000; this was due in part to the consolidated figures of MediClin AG, which had an impact for the first time in the current half-yearly report. This led to an increase in revenue of 25.1% (3.7 percentage points of which were attributable to organic growth) to EUR 1,487m (first half of 2011: EUR 1,188m). Despite ongoing pressure on remuneration for hospitals due to discounts for additional services on the income side and the noticeable effects of the current collective bargaining, the operating result (EBITDAR) rose by 46.3% to EUR 155.5m, meaning that the margin increased by 1.5 percentage points to 10.4%.
